stillness in action

in the face of great activity,
some remain in utter stillness,
not moving a muscle,
an eyelid,
not a twitch,
nothing but a slow and steady heartbeat
absorbed by a level of trust
most of us
will never know

oh! the mind demands
constant attention
like a needy child
or an addict
that must have his fix
terrified of stillness
and silence
he drags us
hither and thither
for ever

we must hold him
like a mother holds
a child
and lull him
into the stillness
that is our true nature.
stillness
